Church Unlurched

I've been thinking a lot about "church".  What does it really look like?  From scripture and in the context of our culture.  There's SO many different opinions.  I get dizzy and this is with my own fellow brothers and sisters.. how do non Christians feel?? (sigh)

I want to stop looking through our eyes and perceptions and take on the vision of God, in this regard.  Yes it will indeed seem lofty and dreamy, especially based on where we are at... BUT I cling to His words, "NOTHING is impossible with God."  Roger and I desire God to give birth to His church.  We want to yield daily to the power of His SPIRIT, HIS WISDOM and HIS DIRECTION to do something that would bring only Him glory.

We both have a burning theme in our hearts of bringing HIM glory.

I have much to share on this topic but will just toss out a few of the many contemplative questions that I  am forced to ask myself.

Are WE being the change we want to see in society?  We must be a demonstration of an alternative society.

If our church began in a bar why would it offend people?  Why??  (Not that we are, but I am being open to many prejudices that have developed.)

If the staff of a church can't be cared for, how possibly do we think we can care for the flock(people)?!

Do we BELONG to one another as a church body?  As members of ONE body our call is that we MUST belong to one another how else can the body function as a unit?  Where is this unity in our independent, isolated society? How do we display this?

My goodness.. I have so many questions... and I sense the Lord is going to answer them all for me but I must walk them out.. literally with Him.  This is how He teaches me best through His Word and then His Spirit applying them through experience.

As we are beginning to know more and more of our neighbours I am just in awe of how they perceive the church.  And this is through fresh new eyes.  How far I have been from the pulse check of the lost.

Some of our neighbours have heard we are "Ministers", but they keep wondering where our building is??  That is the number one question I keep getting.  My heart is broken by this... for to be honest the church "the body of Christ" is to be HIS people.  I need to stay focused on this.  Oh that we would be the people's church... the building is only a side note.  Is the Church a form or a function?

I am also saddened at how many people point fingers and slam the church.  Christ loves the church so much.  How saddened He must be at this reputation we have brought Him.

I want to stand against the current now... and offer myself to help shift the tide.  To rebuild her walls of PEOPLE and power, love and forgiveness.  I believe with all my heart that the church is a phenomenon!  When functioning according to God's will she stands in a class all her own!  She leaves the world in utter amazement!!  She's a little dirty and beaten up... BUT she exists.  Now it's time we clean her up a bit... beautify her through the washing of His Word and His glorious Holy Spirit.

Use us Lord ... Use us... Come Lord Jesus... Come.
